Dear final year student,
Kindly find the assignment and duly submit it by 18/11/2013. No assignment will be accepted after the date.
1. What is the requirement of spillway? Explain different component of spillway & classify it with figures.
2. Design an ogee spillway with the following data:
a) Height of spillway crest above river bed =150 m
b) Design discharge =14000 cumecs
c) No. of span =8
d) Clear distance between piers =18 m
e) Thickness of pier =3 m
f) Slope of downstream face of overflow =0.9:1
Assume any other data if necessary.
3. Design a suitable stilling basin at the toe of the spillway from the following data
a) H.F.L. in the reservoir =100 m
b) Spillway crest level =95 m
c) River bed level =59 m
d) Tail water level =69 m
e) Coefficient of velocity = 0.9
Adopt the tail water depth 5% greater than the sequent depth. Assume Lb/y2 = 4.3.
*Refer Irrigation Water Power and Water Resources Engineering by Dr. K.R. Arora.
4. What is dam outlet and sluice ways? Explain different types of dam outlets.
